Resident Research and Scholarship

Participation in scholarly activity is an integral component of the NYP-WCM Ophthalmology Residency Program. Within the department, NIH-grant funding supports diverse research initiatives ranging from basic retinal and corneal pathophysiology science to a multitude of ongoing prospective studies organized by our in-house clinical trials unit. Residents also can engage in translational projects with biomedical engineering colleagues at Cornell University's Ithaca campus and the new Cornell Tech Campus on Roosevelt Island. Furthermore, residents can leverage Tri-Institutional research collaborations between Weill Cornell Medicine, Rockefeller University, and Memorial Sloan Kettering. Residents present their work at major ophthalmic meetings (AAO, ARVO, ASCRS, ASOPRS, Retina Society, etc.) and publish in respected, peer-reviewed journals. Residents in the PGY-3 and PGY-4 years present their individual research projects during an annual departmental ophthalmology research conference.
